Logitech z506 5.1 Soundsystem Review, Specs and Price

The Logitech z506 appears in a modern, fresh design

The Logitech Z506 is a 5.1 Surround Soundsystem in the lower price range. Currently you should be able to get the z506 for under 100$, but even if you pay more, the money is well spent! With 75 Watts RMS and small, but strong bass-reflex subwoofer this system sounds extraordinary.
A very nice feature of the z506 is also its very easy set-up. In case you are not too familiar with the mass of cables you have to deal with, everything matches up by color, which simplifies the tidious “which cable belongs to which speaker” search.

However, every sounssystem has some weakness. With this one it is the length of the speaker-cables. If you live in a considerably small room and place your speakers directly around your television, the 2 and 2.7 meter long front and center channel cables will be sufficient, as well as the 5 meter long cables for the rear channels. In case you thought about spreading your speakers a little further out, you should be aware that the cable length might be too short. As the usual consumer won´t stretch the cables straight through the air, the “real” distance between speakers and subwoofer is significantly shorter than the cable length. Calculate to not be able to place your
front speakers more than 1 to 1.5 meters away from your subwoofer. This forces you to locate your subwoofer very close to the center of your entertainment system, such as your television. A simple solution to this problem is to buy some RCA extension cables, as you can easily connect them to each other.

A second issue is that it misses a controller to regulate sound or basses, which is currently only possible by walking to one of the front speakers for the volume and you have to reach to the back of the subwoofer to control the bass. That can be very annoying during movies, but is unfortunately not avoidable.
However, that being said, the speaker system is definetily a great catch and if you can deal with a necessary walk to your speaker/subwoofer once in a while (or if you are a fortunate owner of a control pod), the Logitech Z506 is one of the soundsystems you should definetily consider buying! You won´t find a better 5.1 soundsystem for that little money.
